Kris and I had a little writing session on Friday getting the final lyrics sorted to a song Kris had started writing a few weeks ago. It includes a line about a suitcase and therefore I really want to call the track Samsonite. The chap in the song wouldn’t have a Samsonite case though as he’s a bit of a scum bag so I’d imagine he’d have a bit of a, erm, scum bag. Even so, I’d still like to call the track Samsonite as a nod to the comedy genius of Jim Carrey. I imagine Kris will take some convincing on this, but anyone that calls a track ‘Big Dummy Shake’ shouldn’t get the final say on a song’s title in my opinion.

I’ll let Kris have his way about not singing the bridge in the style of a preacher man. And I don’t mean like Dusty Springfield. Under the influence, for some reason I thought the right vocal delivery for four lines should be all hell-and-brimstone-ish. I admit I was very, very wrong – oh how the mighty have fallen.

That’ll do you for now; I’ve got to see a man about a dog’s perspective on having its own sense of identity being questioned every time some jerk of a human decides to use its existence as an excuse to get out of something. Wow, that was a long sentence, never mind…

…is now seeking bookings for the artist roster of moosmusic. Hopefully I’ll be a bit more adept at getting work than Stephen Merchant’s character. Who knows, I may even bring in some paid work. Basically, as of now I’ve got the relentless task of contacting somewhere in the region of five billion music venues to try and sell live music in the guise of either Kristen Bishop – the electro-acoustic act accompanied by DJ Hector Scruff (that’s not the strap-line), Kristen Bishop – the solo acoustic act or DJ Hector Scruff aka the moosmusic sound system.

If you know of a venue that falls between Bristol and Birmingham that is booking live acts please let me know about it (I don’t think five billion places to contact is a big enough list.)

We’re sending out our first ten CDs to venues this weekend starting with Mr Wolf’s, wish us luck!

Reel-to-reel machines may need the odd repair and TLC…

… but there are no issues with BLOODY SOFTWARE UPDATES. The update I want to use for one piece of software requires another piece of software to be updated to version X. The latter piece of software can’t be updated to X without first cross-grading to Y. Y is no longer available as a cross grade. The joys of making music in the digital domain, eh?

The solution: speak to a man in New Zealand and keep my fingers crossed.

… The Prestige is a cracking film! I’ve not yet read the novel by Christopher Priest so I didn’t suffer the whole not-a-patch-on-the-book disappointment. I’ll have to give it a whirl though as the story (especially the double narrative) hints that the novel is probably mind blowing. I’m not a book reviewer though, nor bloody Jonathon Ross so that’s enough about that.

The reason I watched the film last night is down to Kris being a lazy arse and needing an early night due to his weakness. The meeting we had planned has now been moved to Thursday evening so I guess I’ll update you on it on Friday. I expect you’ll have trouble sleeping until then, waiting to hear of our debauchery. Rest assured it’ll be a rock’n’roll affair that may even involve me convincing Kris to drink his first ever… cup of tea! What sort of a weirdo doesn’t drink tea?

After grinning like a moron for 30 minutes, due to my shock at the twist of the film, I made a little music last night. It’s an untitled, unfinished, in your face breaks tune which is sounding really rocking. It centres around a heavily affect guitar sample layered with an aggressive synth line which reminds me a bit of some of that catchy stuff from Swansea duo Hybrid – check them out if you haven’t heard their stuff and subscribe to their free mixes as podcasts on itunes! Who knows where the track will end up? It could turn into an electronic instrumental for a Hector Scruff release or it could find its way to being a bed for some of Kristen’s experimental stuff. Or it could end up in the bin like many of my ideas that start strongly but soon fade, we’ll see and I’ll keep you posted.

Lovely to see all two of my readers again, I hope you enjoyed your stay.

…Kristen plays guitar and sings and writes songs. He’s played in bands and also done some solo stuff. I’ve (I being Hector) been making music for about 3 years in the electronic domain; before that I wrote rhymes, rapped and played about with records.

In the summer of 2006 Kris contacted me and asked if I fancied having a crack at making a tune with him. Foolishly l said yes and he popped round with his guitar and we knocked out a song called Good Riddance. I didn’t want to call it that because riddance is a hard word to spell. Kris got his way though by letting me eat the last mini-donut out of the pack from Tesco.

Since then we’ve:

·     Decided to record an album together of some of Kristen’s solo stuff,

·     Decided to release said album ourselves,

·     Thought up the genius name of ‘moosmusic’,

·     Thought up the genius name of ‘Great Adventures’ for the album,

·     Spent far to long mixing the album and tweaking little bits and bobs,

·     Started to strip down the songs to get a live thing going.

Still to do:

·     Figure out a marketing plan and release the bloody thing,

·     Book some gigs and start playing some songs.

That’s the story so far; obviously I’ve trimmed it down a bit because all of that has taken two years. From now on most posts will be up to date info about what we’re getting up to now. You know, little nuggets of info like last night I popped round to the K-Bombs with Pickle to pick up some CDs and drank well over half of the bottle of wine we were sharing. Kris is round on Tuesday to reasearch some venues for us to approach for the live stuff, so i’ll let you know how we got on at some point on Wednesday. Until then…
