…isn’t here yet so I cant predict what it’ll turn into, okay?

That was a crap reference to an earlier post detailing news of a song of ours being featured in Sound on Sound’s Mix Rescue feature. Well, we’ve had the first draft through of Mike Senior’s remix and all I can say is WOW. He’s done a top job and totally got the sound Kris and I were trying to achieve. If all goes to plan it should be in March’s issue of the mag so stay posted and I’ll keep you up to speed.

On other matters, Kris is ’round tonight to lay down some vocals for the new song. I hope he doesn’t forget his voice box.

Kris remembered his guitar! All the main bits of melody recorded now – a bit of editing to do then it’s time to crack on with the vocals. Speaking of which, I’m off to buy a very tight jock strap for the K-Bomb to try and reach those high notes.

Eight is great

…and is now my mate. For those of you out there in DAW land, I’ve just upgraded to Logic 8. I recommend it for the new delay designer and the updated compressor alone. You also get a job lot of new loops which can prove very useful to get the creative juices flowing and some of the percussion loops are really useful. That said the look of it does seem to have suffered slightly, but that’s only a small gripe and I guess I’ll get used to the cosmetics.

The K-Bomb is popping over tonight to lay down some refined lyrics to our latest number. We also want to layer a few guitar licks, although I bet he forgets his guitar – what a donkey.

…and I don’t mean use lyrics that Hitler would be proud of. Kris and I went back to basics on the weekend are re-assessed our song writing methods. We both right well when alone but hadn’t really done much stuff as a true collaboration where we can really bounce ideas off of each other. We’re on a mission to write some really catchy stuff whilst trying to expand our musical boundaries and figured locking ourselves in a room together might improve what we can come up with.

We set ourselves a few questions we should always ask when writing (a sort of quality control), and then got to work on a new song. I’m sure our working methods will evolve over time whilst we figure out the best way to work together but Saturday went quite smoothly. We sat in the studio and came up with a very simple beat idea and wrote a bass line that was simple yet funky. After working out a rough idea of structure Kris laid down some vocal melody ideas with a few ‘la la oohs’. We then packed up and went back to the K-Bombs to write the lyrics, figuring a change of environment might prove beneficial. Also, leaving the studio means Kris will focus on the lyrics rather than wanting to twiddle the knobs of some unplugged piece of kit. Move over Xenomania!
