…before Kris.

Although Kris is the only person to read this, so infact ‘you’ are Kris. Therefore this isn’t really a blog post, but more a method of communication with the K-Bomb. Anyway, here’s the news.

I’ve got the test mp3 back from a lady vocalist who’s helping us with SONG B. It sounds pretty corking, so as long as Kris / you agree it’s time for the final mix (the final mix will include some backing vocals recorded by my good friend Etta, so if you ever read this – thanks Bab.)Then it’s time to start shipping the two song demo to try and get some publishing interest, we better get our research glasses on.

On another note, SONG C is underway. The verse, chorus and bridge sections of instrumentation are pretty much written. We’ve also got a good idea of the vocal melody and meter. So its round to the K-Bombs tonight to get the lyrics sorted.

Oh, one other thing to mention. Round at Darren’s one night a few months ago (which was actually the night we decided to revamp our songwriting plan) Kris and I were forced to listen to some of Darren’s record collection.

  • The good bits: Old ACDC, John Bonham raw drum tracks, The Black Keys.
  • Bad bits: Tom Waits, Jonny Cash, The Stooges (Is it a wall of sound or a wall of shit??)
  • Undecided: A little known at the time called Gary Go. He’s now all over the Radio and while I’m still unsure about his music, his marketing and PR absolutely kicks arse. Make up your own mind. And on that note…

…female vocalist who can sing, living in the Cheltenham area, must have GSOH.

That was a joke, she can be really boring actually. I’ve always wanted to abbreviate good sense of humour but have never had the opportunity. Actually I still haven’t had the opportunity, I just did it anyway. Sue me.

Why on earth is it so hard to find a female singer? The be all and end all of what’s hip in the industry (The Observer Music Monthly) lists all the hot tips for the year as female solo artists. If this is the case surely there should be an abundance of the little elusive warblers somewhere near me, waiting for their big break, willing to sing on a demo or two???

The search goes on…

P.S. For those of you who now think I’m a wanker, the Observer line was coated with sarcasm.

A quick update…

…goes a little something like this:

  • Still looking for a female vocalist, although there are a few options now.
  • A few ideas knocking around for SONG 3.
  • Proof read the SOS mix rescue article, maybe out March issue.
  • Got invited to Kris’ for Chilli.
  • Went to Kris’ and had to cook said Chilli.

That’ll do you for now. The next post will include an amusing anecdote, I promise!

…I’m a record breaker. Well discarder anyway. I’ve been sorting out my vinyl this week and now have two gigantic stacks to take to the charity shop. I’ve not been careless in my selection, and I’m only binning off the ones that will a) never be sampled, b) never be listened to and c) have horible sleeve artwork. Even so it still pains me and any of you vinyl fiends out there will no my woes I’m sure. Still, whilst sorting I found some old gems I totally forgot I had – Jimmy Castor bring it on!!

Meeting a lady vocalist tomorrow to sort the demo for SONG B if all goes well.

Have a top weekend.

An update that’s late…

…from over the Christmas break.

We’ve finished the rough mix of SONG A, the first song written after our little pow-wow on how to improve our writing methods. The song isn’t actually called SONG A – that would be a rubbish title. Blur were idiots for calling one of their hits ‘Song 2’, if they’d have named it ‘Whoo-hoo’ I’m sure it would have reached number one in a number of European countries. I’ll stick with labeling new songs as SONG A, SONG B etc but rest assured they have amazing titles. Back to SONG A, it needs some backing vocals added from a female (or gent with no balls) then a quick final mix and shazaam – demo ready.

That’s not all we’ve done, oh no. We’ve also got all the instrumentation and guide vocals down for SONG B, a corker of a track that sounds like T-Rex on speed. Tonight I’m round at Kris’ refining the lyrics, then we just need to get a female vocalist in to lay down the demo vocals.
