…and ain’t that grand!

Grub and pints tonight with The Pickle, and hopefully Kris and Cat too.

Haircut by The Tomick tomorrow, shopping for wedding shirts and the in-take of a bit of football. Oh, and maybe start the mix of Look What You Do To Me – who’s vocals we recorded last weekend.

Sunday sees Kristen pop over to record the vocals to the funky one (although there’s still a verse to write!). I think I can hit the O o os in this song so I may have my voice recorded for the first time in years. We’ve actually got a title for it now too, you won’t beat it – Dance, Strut, Sweat, Strip. The trousersnake should record this one with a title like that.

Monday is unplanned, but it may well evoke the Bank Holiday Monday that Kelly Jones sings about.

Next week will be the start of something a little exciting, especially if you like whodunits and the odd wordsearch – to be continued…

Chin chin,

It’s been a good weekend too…

… so my toast at the end of the last post was very profetic. Is that a word? I seriously doubt it.

The weekend went like this:

  • Friday – Out for a bite to eat with the Pickle which was both delicious and nutritious
  • Saturday – Finished the mix of ‘Art or Breaking Hearts’ (it’s sounding stonking) and went to Davey P’s for a few hands of Poker. El vino did flow.
  • Sunday – Recorded the vocals for ‘Look What You Do To Me’.

I think the  title ‘Look What You Do To Me’ is far from our strongest but there’s a sample of that line peppered right through the song so it wouldn’t make much sense to call the track anything else. Anyway, it’s my favourite song at the moment, but it’s not exactly a pop song so I’m not sure where we could place it. Who knows though, maybe it’ll be our biggest success so lets get it dusted.

A couple more good leads this week thanks to a friendly chap called Pete.

The drummer girl Flick is also passing a few demos about for us now; what a lovely girl she is!

Off to get some coffee now.

Listen to Nikka Costa

Chin chin,

…go a little something like this:

  • Courteous publishers and A&R
  • Pickle on our anniversary (and the rest of the week of course)
  • The Ugly Angel by Paul Curreri
  • The Great Escape by Patrick Howard
  • The Jim by Jamie Lidell
  • The Bar and Wok by some chap in Cheltenham

It’s been a good week, here’s to a good weekend.

Chin chin,

The end of the song alphabet…

…cataloging system is upon us!

I’m sick of calling the songs ‘Song A-Z’ so from now on we’ll stick with their proposed names, okay?

To clarify where we are:

Song A = Amplified. This is finished!

Song B = Kiss Me Better. This is finished!

Song C = Get Gone. This is finished!

Song D = Untitled. No, we’re not being all post-modern and calling it that – we’re not pretentious twats. It’s called Funky Q in the studio but it’ll have a real name eventually. IE. Once we’ve written some pissing lyrics to it.

Song E = Art Of Breaking Hearts. This just needs the final mix doing so should be finished this coming week. I think it’s our strongest song to date. It has a A-B structure for the verses and the B is better than most choruses out there in my opinion. Obviously the actual chorus shits on all other choruses out there as we are great.

Had a wait getting the vocals back from the session singer for Get Gone, then i took an age to mix it. Back to getting the CDs out this weekend though as there are a few leads I’m quite optimistic about.

It’s Jay’s stag do tomorrow so the K-Bomb and I are working Sunday morning this weekend. We’ll probably be working on the lyrics to Song F. Sorry, old habits die hard. We’ll probably be working on the lyrics to Look What You Do To Me (although this is only a title based on the scat vocal melody we did when we wrote the music, and i think we all agree that as a title it sucks. I’ll get the K-Bomb Cock Cutter to think of a new one on Sunday.)
